Vols’ bowl projection would honor Johnny Majors

Tennessee’s latest bowl projection for the 2020 season.

Tennessee (2-6, 2-6 SEC) has two games remaining in the 2020 regular season.

The Vols travel to Vanderbilt Saturday and will host Texas A&M to conclude a 10-game, SEC-only regular season.

USA TODAY has released bowl projections ahead of this week’s games. Tennessee is projected to play Pittsburgh in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl.

The TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl will be played Jan. 1 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

Former Tennessee player and head coach Johnny Majors also served as Pittsburgh’s head coach, winning the 1976 national championship.

As head coach, Majors led Tennessee to three SEC championships (1985, 1989 and 1990).

Majors, who made the College Football Hall of Fame as a player, went 116-62-8 at his alma mater.

He compiled a 45–45–1 record in two stints as Pittsburgh’s head coach (1973–76, 1993–96).
