Eagles HC Doug Pederson on ‘establishing the run’ to help Jalen Hurts be successful vs. the Saints

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to start Jalen Hurts at quarterback against the New Orleans Saints and head coach Doug Pederson is saying all the right things when it comes to setting his rookie signal-caller up for success.

During his Wednesday zoom meeting, Pederson was asked about putting Hurts in the best position to be successful against the Saints’ top-ranked defense.

Pederson’s response was surprising and something we’ve heard before.

Pederson harped on the Eagles utilizing the running game and quick screen game to help get Hurts into a good rhythm on Sunday. The problem is that any substantive running game on Sunday would appear to undermine Carson Wentz, who has been asked to drop back and pass an inordinate amount of times this season.

A Week 14 focus on the running game will only make the madness surrounding the quarterback controversy that much more intense.
