The 2020-21 season opened on a winning note for the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team Tuesday.
The Volunteers, playing for the first time in 276 days, notched a 56-47 victory over Colorado at Thompson-Boling Arena.
John Fulkerson and Santiago Vescovi shared high-scoring honors for the Volunteers (1-0). Each had 11 points for Tennessee, which never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 16 in the first half.
Fulkerson totaled three rebounds and Vescovi recorded five assists for the Vols.
Yves Pons had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Victor Bailey Jr. and Josiah-Jordan James each scored eight points for UT. James also had six rebounds for the Vols, who host Cincinnati Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EST.
Colorado’s Jeriah Horne led all all scorers with 15 points.
