No head coach in the long history of the Green Bay Packers has ever won more games in their first two seasons than Matt LaFleur.
Just 12 games into his second season, LaFleur has already set the new franchise record for total wins in his first two seasons. He has 22 after Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, breaking the previous record of 21 set by Mike McCarthy and Mike Sherman.
LaFleur’s Packers are 22-6 since the start of 2019, good for the third-best record in football. LaFleur’s .786 win percentage is the second-best in NFL history among coaches with at least 20 games.
McCarthy and Sherman both went 21-11 in their first two seasons. With four games to go, LaFleur has a chance to get to 26 wins.
After a 13-3 season in 2019, the Packers are 9-3 to start 2020. LaFleur smashed the Packers’ record for wins in his first season, eclipsing the previous record by four wins. The Packers improved by seven wins from 2018 to 2019, another team record.
George Seifert owns the NFL record for most wins in his first two seasons, winning 28 (14-2, 14-2) during the 1989 and 1990 seasons with the San Fransisco 49ers.
LaFleur has the Packers in position to win a second-straight NFC North title. The team’s primary playcaller, LaFleur’s offense ranks first in the NFL in scoring after 13 weeks.
