The Chicago Bears were once thought to have hopes of a postseason berth for the first time since 2018. But that dream has been shattered with Chicago’s sixth consecutive loss, which sent them to 5-7 on the season.
It’s difficult to even mention the Bears in the same breath as the postseason discussion at this point, even though they’re still mathematically “in the hunt” following an embarrassing 34-30 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Over the last 10 seasons, NFL teams that have started the season 5-7 have made the playoffs just 10% of the time.
If the Bears had won on Sunday, their playoff chances would’ve risen to 41%, which isn’t any more encouraging but it certainly would’ve been better than 10%.
Keep in mind the Bears had a 90% chance of making the playoffs earlier this season before this epic collapse.
For the optimists out there, the 5-7 Bears still have a 10% chance of making the postseason. https://t.co/8k4WR6BNe8

The odds of making the postseason do get slightly better for teams that start 6-7 — a measly 22 percent — as the Bears have a chance to do against the Houston Texans in Week 14. But with this Bears team, it’s hard to expect a win at this point, especially against a vengeful Deshaun Watson.
