Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has been along for the ride with Washington quarterback Alex Smith’s odyssey back being a starter in the NFL.
After all, Watt was the defender who produced the fateful sack on Nov. 18, 2020, that broke Smith’s leg and kept him out football for the next year and a half.
Watt was tuned in to Monday afternoon football to see his brothers, Derek and T.J. Watt, help the Pittsburgh Steelers extend their undefeated streak. The Steelers were unsuccessful, as Washington prevailed 23-17 at Heinz Field.
“What Alex Smith has done is unbelievable,” Watt wrote on Twitter. “Comeback Player of the Year even before taking a snap. But playing winning football after everything he’s been through is even more incredible.”

Smith completed 31 passes on 46 attempts for 296 yards and a touchdown as Washington improves to 5-7, taking second place in a pathetic but competitive NFC East.
