What Nets hope to accomplish schematically to build a strong defense

Steve Nash has preached the importance of defense since becoming Brooklyn’s head coach, and it appears his Nets players are listening.

While Mike D’Antoni is putting most of his focus on the offensive end of the floor, Steve Nash has Jacque Vaughn focused more on Brooklyn’s defense.

Which explains why there are similarities between the defense the Nets are running under Nash and the one they ran under Vaughn in the Disney bubble.

“Defensively we’re changing things up a little bit,” Joe Harris said to reporters on a Zoom call on Sunday. “It’s a little more comparable to the defense we did — the defensive philosophy we had in the bubble. It’s not so much of a two-on-two schematic, center field; it’s a little bit more aggressive.”

So what does that entail exactly?

“We’re trying to make the offense play unbalanced and out of rhythm and play a little bit more aggressive,” Harris explained, “use the length and athleticism we have, and the good rim protectors we have, too — allows the guards to put more pressure on the offensive ball-handlers.”
