According to a report Urban Meyer will not take the Texas job

According to multiple reports, including Chip Brown of Horns247, it doesn’t appear Urban Meyer will take the job at Texas.

Since the Texas Longhorns lost back-to-back games to the TCU Horned Frogs and Oklahoma Sooners, rumors have circulated about Urban Meyer.

The three-time national championship winning coach was a very attractive target for a football team that has performed below expectations for the better part of a decade. So could the Longhorns persuade the best coach on the market to take the reins in Austin?

According to a report from Chip Brown of Horns247, it appears Meyer will not come out of the broadcast booth and take the job from his former offensive coordinator.

The possibility of three-time national championship coach Urban Meyer ending up at Texas appears to have come to an end after Meyer indicated to Texas he’s leaning toward not coaching again due to health reasons, a university source told Horns247. Horns247 reported Sunday if Texas couldn’t land Meyer, there’s a chance Tom Herman will remain as coach of the Texas Longhorns.

Unless Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte can rally the regents and big money donors behind another candidate, it is very unlikely they will shell out the $25 million to buy out Tom Herman and his assistant coaches. Of course, nothing is official at this point but it doesn’t appear likely Meyer will be coming to the Forty Acres.

Is there another option out there that could entice the brass? It is certainly possible, but at this point, it just might mean that Herman returns for another season.
