Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers had to try and make do without defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt. Tuitt is currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list which forced him to miss the game. But according to defensive coordinator Keith Butler, the team hopes they will have Tuitt back when they take on the Washington Football Team on Monday.
We were never told if Tuitt tested positive for COVID-19 but based on the fact Butler thinks he could come off the list in time to play Monday tells us he was only placed on the list due to close contact.
Tuitt has had a tremendous 2020 season. In 10 games, Tuitt has seven sacks, seven tackles for loss and 18 quarterback hits. Last week, Chris Wormley replaced Tuitt in the starting lineup and it was clear the defense wasn’t as dynamic. Typically, availability for practice dictates availability to play but I assume with a player like Tuitt, if he comes off the COVID list late, head coach Mike Tomlin will still get him into the lineup.
