It’s safe to say, this season Maliek Collins hasn’t been what the Raiders hoped he would be. I named him the Raiders most disappointing addition at the midseason and Pro Football Focus graded him as the league-worst defensive tackle.
The past couple of weeks, in particular, Collins hasn’t recorded a single stat. Not even an assist. According to Jon Gruden, Collins has been dealing with an injury and the team has decided it best to shut him down for a while.
“Mo [Maliek Collins] is hurt. Unfortunately, he’s had some lingering problems and he’s going to be on short-term IR,” Jon Gruden said Wednesday.
The hope is that Collins can perform better once he’s fully healthy again. He couldn’t perform much worse, honestly.
There are some who believe Maurice Hurst deserves to start ahead of Collins, and at this point he probably does. But he too is banged up and missed practice Wednesday, putting his status for Sunday in New York up in the air.
“Maurice Hurst wasn’t practicing today either, so we’ll have to find some help from someplace,” Gruden continued. “If you know somebody, call me.”
The next man up here would be a practice squad call-up. Perhaps David Irving.
