Monday evening, it was reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com that Gators running back Iverson Clement has entered the transfer portal. Clement, a redshirt sophomore, has not gotten considerable playing time in his three years with Florida and will presumably be in search of a team that can offer him more touches.
“It is with careful thought, prayer, and consulting with my support system that I have decided to enter the transfer portal,” said Clement in a written statement via Twitter on Tuesday morning. “Although this comes at an unexpected time, I believe this is what is best for me.”

A highly coveted recruit, Clement’s career at Florida hasn’t been what some may have hoped. Through UF’s eight games in 2020, he saw playing time in only three, receiving only five carries. His 29 yards on the year all came in Florida’s victory over Mizzou. Expand the scope to include all 13 of his games with the Gators, and he’s only carried the ball 12 times for 96 yards, including an impressive 41 yard rush.
The outlook for Clement’s playing time was admittedly grim if he had stayed with Florida for 2021. Already spending this season behind the trio of Dameon Pierce, Malik Davis, and Nay’Quan Wright on the depth chart, he was likely going to be leapfrogged again with the impending arrival of Clemson transfer Demarkus Bowman.
The opportunity for greener pastures will almost certainly be available for Clement, who had offers from 16 schools as a four-star recruit before settling on the Gators. His athletic ability and background with Florida, a top offensive school, should be enough to land him a gig somewhere more able to provide him with the playing time he needs.
