Raiders likely to be without RT Trent Brown again Week 13 vs. Jets

We haven’t seen much from Trent Brown this season. He’s only seen the field one full game, first due to a calf injury and then twice being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The big right tackle is expected to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list this week, though Raiders head coach Jon Gruden doesn’t see Brown playing next Sunday when the Raiders face the Jets.

“Yes. I think he’ll be on the field Wednesday,” said Gruden Monday. “I don’t believe he’ll be playing in this game, but just to get him back out there is a big lift for our team.”

Brandon Parker has started at right tackle the past two games. He figures to once again start, though veteran Sam Young is also available to start should the team choose to make a change.

Brown originally left the season opener with a calf injury after three snaps. He was placed on injured reserve and returned for the team’s week five win over the Chiefs.

Afterward, the team had their bye week and when they returned to practice, Brown had tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the entire starting offensive line to go into quarantine as close contacts. They all returned in time for the team’s Week 7 game against the Buccaneers, but Brown did not.

He was set to return the week after to face the Cleveland Browns, but suffered an IV mishap in the locker room prior to the game and was rushed to the hospital. The mere fact that he needed an IV was a bad sign for his health state and he was soon placed back on the reserve/COVID-19 list with residual effects of the illness.

Once he takes the field, he will come off the list, but, just as happened with Clelin Ferrell when he returned from the list last week, he won’t appear in the game that week.

Along with Brown’s return, starting nickel cornerback Lamarcus Joyner is expected to return as well. And the team will hope Ferrell is back in the swing of things so he could return to the field.
