On Wednesday, New York Knicks first-round pick Obi Toppin joined forces with the Black Veterans for Social Justice nonprofit organization to hand out food in Brooklyn ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Black Veterans for Social Justice began in 1979 and is a community-based organization servicing veterans, their families and members of the community. Toppin was also joined by his father as they helped distribute turkeys to the local residents.
Toppin said on draft night that it was a dream come true to be selected by his hometown team. As a player that was unranked out of high school, his journey to this point has been remarkable and he now has the opportunity to give back to the same community he grew up in.

Each year, players and teams throughout the NBA join together to distribute food to communities across the United States. The gesture has often helped benefit hundreds of families each year and is yet another example of the league giving back to citizens.
