Lakers add Marc Gasol, trade JaVale McGee to Cavaliers to make move

The Los Angeles Lakers added championship experience, defense, and passing ability to their frontcourt by adding Gasol.

The Los Angeles Lakers have once again made their team better during the free agency period. This time, they added one of the best passing centers in the league who is sure to help create some fun basketball moments with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It also helps them keep pace with the Los Angeles Clippers, who added Serge Ibaka to their team on Saturday.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers have agreed to a deal with free agent center Marc Gasol, who spent the last season and a half on the Toronto Raptors, being a part of their 2019 NBA Championship team. As part of the deal to bring in Gasol, the Lakers traded their starting center from last season, JaVale McGee to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the move helps the Lakers save $1 million in salary, which could help them be more flexible down the line and helped them get the deal done for Gasol. Gasol was originally drafted by the Lakers but was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the deal that brought his brother Pau to the Lakers in 2008.
