The New York Jets have had a tough stretch of football ever since their win over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl 3.
OK, maybe that is a little too harsh and not totally accurate but whatever – the Jets have long been one of the easiest teams to laugh at in all of the NFL and that trend continued Sunday in Los Angeles.
This year’s version of the Jets is currently the only winless team in the league and is calling Joe Flacco its starting quarterback in the year 2020, which isn’t great.
This play from second quarter on Sunday perfectly sums up the Jets. Defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd got flagged for a roughing the passer call for hitting Chargers QB Justin Herbert AFTER he slid and AFTER he got up.
Check this out:
This roughing the passer penalty is the most Jets thing ever. pic.twitter.com/p1gt5YrORs

My favorite part of that was Shepherd’s immediate reaction – he knew he had just done a really dumb thing and instantly ran off the field in shame.
The Chargers scored a touchdown just three plays later.
Twitter had fun laughing at that play:
Especially on a QB who was GETTING UP from his slide. https://t.co/z8ebVSxBix

The Jets getting a roughing the passer penalty after the quarterback slid *and* stood up is honestly impressive

I don't know if I've seen a more inexcusable mistake this #Jets season than what Nathan Shepherd just did. Some of their 11 roughing-the-passer penalties have been ticky-tacky. That's just boneheaded.
