In its last week of importance, Michigan sits outside the latest AP Top 25 poll

Michigan football couldn’t jump back into the AP Top 25 poll rankings before the CFP rankings took over. Will it ever return this season?

The college football world saw plenty of ranked action yesterday enough to shake up this week’s standings. Michigan was able to capture a victory over Rutgers in triple-overtime, winning 48-42. Still, its victory won’t be enough to move into the final important AP Top 25 poll of the season. Starting Tuesday, the College Football Playoff rankings will begin, and the AP poll will take a step back in being the major rankings.

Despite the Wolverines record, if they can start a winning streak after this game, there is a chance they would reappear in the polls before they play Ohio State. Next week Michigan takes on a winless Penn State team, then possibly against Maryland, though they have had its previous two games canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak. A 4-3 team doesn’t feel like a ranked one, but the Wolverines get a chance to rise if others ahead can fall.
