Jets injury report: Sam Darnold doubtful, but gets good news

Sam Darnold (shoulder) is officially doubtful this Sunday against the Chargers, but he has a “good shot” of facing the Dolphins next week.

Sam Darnold (shoulder) is officially doubtful this Sunday against the Chargers, but he has a “good shot” of facing the Dolphins next week.

“He’s progressing in the right direction,” said Adam Gase, who couldn’t provide a timetable on the quarterback earlier this week, per the New York Post. “We’ll just kind of see how this weekend goes and how he feels Monday and Tuesday and we’ll be able to know on Wednesday.”

Joe Flacco, meanwhile, will make his second straight start in place of Darnold in Week 11. He is expected to have all the weapons he had in Week 9 when the veteran signal-caller had the offense looking the best it has all season.

The defense, however, could be missing a few bodies in Los Angeles. LB Blake Cashman (hamstrings) is doubtful, while CB Bless Austin (neck) is questionable. The Jets hope Austin can play; their depth-deprived secondary will need him against a deep Los Angeles offense.

K Sam Ficken (right groin) is also questionable. He has not played since Week 6. Sergio Castillo has done an admirable job filling in.

As for the Chargers, LS Cole Mazza and QB Tyrod Taylor are questionable. DE Joey Bosa, who recently battled a concussion, will play after a full week of practice.
