Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler has righted in the ship after a semi-rocky start to his first year as full-time starter (the numbers were still off the charts but a few costly turnovers and losses will overshadow that).
Since being benched and rallying in overtime against Texas, Rattler has been on fire and the Sooners haven’t sniffed losing a game – including back-to-back 62-point outings in blowout wins over Texas Tech and Kansas.
Today, his play has been deemed good enough to add him to the Maxwell Award watch list.

The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the “best all-around” player in the United States, so this is an obvious big statement nationally about Rattler’s level of play this season.
In seven games, he has thrown for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing close to 68 percent of his passes. That is also with not playing the majority of the second half in three games this year.
Rattler is going to have a hard time winning this award over the likes of Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence or Ohio State’s Justin Fields, but this is a big referendum on how he is perceived around the country.
The next step for him and the Sooners is a Saturday night date with Bedlam rival Oklahoma State in Norman.
