Cowboys CB Chidobe Awuzie set to make his return vs Vikings

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Chidobe Awuzie set to return to action in Week 11. What does the second half of the season mean for him?

There’s two questions that have been lingering for the Dallas Cowboys throughout 2020. The first is how best to evaluate a team that’s never had even a semblance of their preseason depth chart in tact. The second is, “when will it be over?” Unfortunately, nothing can be done about the latter. But the former comes in assessing individual play.

One player under the microscope for the remainder of the year is Chidobe Awuzie. On Monday it was reported the fourth-year cornerback is set to step foot on the field for the first time since Week 2, after suffering a hamstring injury that lingered for nearly two months.

Awuzie has something to play for, to be sure, namely a new contract as he will enter free agency in the off-season. He has been often picked on, both by fans and opposing quarterbacks so far in his career. His play has been defined by the rare ability to fail at making a play despite being in the right spot at the right time. The kind of money he commands could very well be determined by his next seven games.

Thanks to the front office’s failure to sign quarterback Dak Prescott to a long term deal, the cap situation in Dallas is as murky as it’s ever been. And with Awuzie, a player who’s looking to cash in for the first time in his career ready to test the market, he won’t be giving a hometown discount if someone knocks on his door with a bag of cash.
