Damien Harris has claimed the No. 1 role for the New England Patriots.

Harris was the team’s leading rusher (22 carries, 121 yards) in a rain-heavy 23-17 victory against the Baltimore Ravens. He was the Patriots’ leader rushing yards heading into the game with 350 yards and a touchdown. Harris was calm, smooth and extremely decisive while picking apart Baltimore’s defense.

He’s a second-year running back out of Alabama that didn’t play at all in his rookie season. Harris missed the first three weeks of the 2020 season and his time to shine is finally here. While speaking with reporters after the win, Harris elaborated on the feelings he was having.

“It’s huge, it helps me build confidence to continue to go out there and try do my job,” Harris said. “But, I wouldn’t of had any of the success that I had tonight without the guys up front. That’s first and foremost, so I’ve got to give all that to them. They’ve been so good all year and they’ve really been the anchor of our offense. They’re what makes us dope.”

I can’t even put into words how important out offensive line is to our team. All the credit in the world to those guys, I love all those guys. They make my job a lot easier, so I’m incredibly grateful to have that offensive line to run behind. I’m incredibly thankful to be a New England Patriot, and I’m kind of overcome with emotion right now. I’m on cloud nine right now”

Harris’ 121-rushing yards was a career high and he’s setting himself up for a 500-plus yard season. The Patriots have a lot of work to do in order to gain playoff relevance and Harris will be a key to that.
