Here’s something we all hate to see: Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater walking slowly to the locker room after suffering a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bridgewater was brought down from behind on a sack by Jason Pierre-Paul, who tackled him from behind around the thighs.
Bridgewater’s knees buckled as he fell, and he was careful to get up from the turf before moving to the medical trainer’s table and exiting to the Panthers locker room. He did not return before the final whistle.
Hopefully this isn’t a serious injury; Bridgewater’s ability to walk off under his own power is encouraging. If there’s any silver lining, it’s that he did not reinjure the left knee that suffered a career-threatening dislocation and torn ACL back in 2016. This time, it was his right leg.
It took little time for Bridgewater to ingratiate himself to Panthers fans, which has been a common theme throughout his career. He was quickly accepted by Saints fans after the team acquired him in a trade with the New York Jets in 2018, even before he went 5-0 as a starter in relief of Drew Brees, and he’s been commonly described as one of the better-liked people in the NFL. Here’s hoping for good news.
