Ahead of the 2019-20 NBA season, the Nets extended Caris LeVert to the tune of $52.5 million over three years. Brooklyn did the same with fellow NBA draft class of 2016 member Taurean Prince, agreeing to a two-year $29 million — without the forward having played a single regular season game in a Nets uniform.
This year, it’s Jarrett Allen’s turn to get a rookie extension.
But will he?
Allen has the capabilities to be a starter in this league, but DeAndre Jordan took the job from him before the NBA went on hiatus. The young big man got his job back for the Disney bubble, but Jordan was among those not with the team — so, the veteran could easily get his job back and start alongside friends Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Nets fans could find out Brooklyn’s plans for Allen as soon as Monday afternoon (EST), with the league’s trade moratorium set to end at 12 p.m.
If Allen isn’t dealt, the Nets have until December 21 to come to an agreement on a rookie extension, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
