Jeff Knox might not be as big of a name at the Masters as, say, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods and others.
But for golf fans, he’s a celebrity of sorts at Augusta.
Knox, as we explained back in 2016, is known as the official “marker” at the Masters. If there are an odd number of players who make the cut, he steps in and gets paired with one of the pros, and even though his round doesn’t go on the leaderboard, he still gets the experience of a lifetime — although he’s done this a bunch and he might have outscored Rory McIlroy once while playing with him in 2014.
This year, he’s stepped in a little early. Erik van Rooyen withdrew after the first round due to injury, so Knox will play with Sung Kang on Friday.
