The November Masters is here. It’s the final major on the 2020 calendar.
Golfers are starting on both tees this week for the first time ever at the Masters. That’s mainly due to the time of year. There was an average of 12 hours, 53 minutes of sunlight during April 9-12 in Augusta, but from Nov. 12-15 that number shrinks to a daily average of 10 hours, 27½ minutes.
Tiger Woods fired a bogey-free, 4-under-par 68 to stand three shots behind clubhouse leader Paul Casey. The only other time Woods broke 70 in the first round in his 23 Masters appearances came in 2010 when he returned from scandal and shot 68.
In 66th major start, Casey shot 65 to grab Masters lead. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau’s big-bombing plan went awry in opening round, as shot a 2-under 70.
The first round had a three-hour delay and 44 golfers did not finish. The golfers were back on the course at 7:30 a.m. to complete the opening round.
