As the New England Patriots get set to take on the Baltimore Ravens, it’s fun to look at the roster for Baltimore and figure out which ravens player would be the best fit for the team. For me, Lamar Jackson would be the guy to take from Baltimore.
The 2019 NFL MVP threw for 36 touchdowns and six interceptions a year ago. This year, he has thrown for 1,135 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He brings with him a dynamic playmaking ability that is tough to find in the National Football League today. His ability to run as well as throw while on the run makes him a desired player for just about anybody.
Cam Newton has certainly had his struggles this year. They have been well-documented as he looks to get back to playing at a high level. Jackson would be better than Newton in terms of arm strength, and throwing the football. These days, Jackson throws better on the run, and has more confidence in his arm at the moment.
With the lack of consistency from the New England Patriots wide receivers, the ability of Jackson to keep play live on his own would be crucial for this organization. Newton has shown the ability to do that at times, but right now it looks like he is focused on throwing in the pocket. To be fair, that yielded Newton decent success on Monday.
Jackson would also give New England stability at the quarterback position. For the past two seasons in particular, he has shown that he is the guy for Baltimore at the position. Right now, we don’t know if Newton will be in New England next year. Stability for the Patriots would be huge at the position, especially with a young group of wide receivers returning again next year.
Although the quarterback isn’t exactly the most pressing need for New England at the moment, it would be hard to pass up on the dynamic playmaking of Jackson. His youth combined with his agility and athleticism would certainly help a struggling New England Patriots offense. Although it would never happen, it’s certainly fun to dream.
