Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension with his original draft team on July 15, 2020.
With 39.5 career sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and 9.0 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2020, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson says the former 2017 No. 1 overall pick has certainly been worthy of his contract extension.
“He’s a beast,” Watson said. “He got paid what he deserved. He’s a guy that’s going to come every play. He’s a guy that you have to worry about each and every time. He’s a special talent; very athletic, can run, very powerful, very strong, can bend around the edge.”
Watson has taken 24 sacks on the season, the fourth-most in the NFL. Though Watson has quality tackles in Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard, Garrett still presents a credible threat to the Texans’ pass protection.
“He’s a guy that we got to make sure that we can try to contain as much as possible and not let him take over the ball game,” said Watson.
Tunsil earned his first career Pro Bowl with the Texans last season, despite Houston acquiring the former 2016 first-round pick at the end of preseason. Nonetheless, Tunsil was the key at left tackle to protecting Watson and helping the former 2017 first-round pick earn his second career Pro Bowl.
Against the Browns, with Garrett lurking on the edge, Tunsil will be key to keeping Watson upright.
Said Watson: “I feel like the best left tackle in the game, so, I’m glad that he’s on my team. I’m glad that he’s healthy and he’s been able to do what he do and he takes the charge of the offensive line. I’m comfortable when he’s on my left side and he’s fully healthy and can go out there each and every snap.”
The 2-6 Texans look to earn their second consecutive win of the season as they take on the 5-3 Browns Sunday at 12:00 p.m CT at FirstEnergy Stadium.
