Hawaii at San Diego State: Three things to know
- Hawaii bounced back from a 31-7 beatdown on the mainland at Wyoming on Oct. 30 to top New Mexico 39-33 in its home opener last Saturday. However, they failed to cover for the second consecutive weekend, although the Over cashed for the first time thanks to a season-high 39 points.
- Head coach Todd Graham took over for Nick Rolovich this season, and the latter employed the run-and-shoot offense. Graham used a more ground-based attack in the first two games, but harkened back to that pass-first mentality vs. UNM, as QB Chevan Cordeiro slung it 43 times for 410 yards and four passing touchdowns and one rushing score.
- San Diego State was dominant in the first two games, outscoring the opponent 36.0 PPG to 6.5 PPG against UNLV and at Utah State. However, the Aztecs were on the short end of a 28-17 loss to visiting San Jose State last week, blowing a three-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Aztecs also turned it over three times which did not help.

Hawaii at San Diego State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
San Diego State 34, Hawaii 24
Money line (ML)
San Diego State (-400) is a risky play at home, especially coming off of a stunning loss at home against San Jose State as 10-point favorites. Hawaii (+305) is always a threat because of its ability to strike quickly, too. AVOID.
Against the spread (ATS)
HAWAII +11.5 (-115) got back to basics, as Graham went to a more pass-happy attack after New Mexico fired out to a first-quarter lead. While Graham might be more of a run-first coach, he has a pass-first personnel group and that’s what should work better. Cordeiro is the next great Hawaii quarterback, and he can do enough to keep the Warriors in any game.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 52.5 (-115) is a good bet, assuming the Warriors stick with the pass. They hit their first Over result last week, and they have posted 34 or more points in two of three so far. The Aztecs are averaging 29.7 PPG through three games and should get back on track if they can take better care of the ball, something they didn’t do against the Spartans last week.
