With one week to go until the NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly had discussions with the Atlanta Hawks to acquire the sixth overall pick, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.
The Timberwolves are looking to add a second lottery pick and could be willing to include Jarrett Culver and the 17th overall pick in a potential deal. However, the Hawks have other potential suitors for the pick, including the New Orleans Pelicans and Boston Celtics.
Minnesota could be looking to acquire an additional lottery pick in order to package it with the No. 1 pick and trade for a star player. Last week, a report surfaced that indicated the front office would be open to trading Culver if it meant they could acquire a star player.
Sources: The Timberwolves are attempting to acquire a second lottery pick. They’ve had talks with the Hawks for #6. A possible deal could include Jarrett Culver and #17.
A number of teams are interested in Atlanta’s #6 pick—the Pelicans and Celtics being among them, sources say.

With Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell on the team, the Timberwolves have been rumored into wanting to make a trade in order to give their two stars some help. The organization is trying to win now and is looking to cash in on the top pick in the draft.
Minnesota acquired Culver with the sixth overall pick in last year’s draft and believe he has a bright future ahead. While the team is high on his potential, including him in a potential deal to acquire a star player would likely be a gamble the front office is willing to make.
By all accounts, the Timberwolves have been active in trade discussions leading up to the draft and that could eventually come to fruition with a potential deal to be agreed upon on or before draft night.
The NBA draft is scheduled to begin on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN.
