The Brooklyn Nets’ top priority this offseason may be re-signing Joe Harris, but it’s not the only thing on their list of to-dos — the constant swirl of trade rumors, alone, prove this to be the case.

For instance, there’s another member of the roster Nets general manager Sean Marks needs to take care of.

Like Miami’s Bam Adebayo, Boston’s Jayson Tatum and other members of the 2017 NBA draft class, Jarrett Allen is up for a rookie scale extension — something the Nets gave Taurean Prince (two years, $25.25 million) last year before he played in a single regular season game for Brooklyn, after fellow 2016 draft classmate Caris LeVert got a three-year $52.5 million extension in August.

But can the Nets afford to give Allen the money he wants?

Former Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager Bobby Marks expressed on ESPN’s Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast that Allen will “Clint Capela-type money.”

Capela got a deal for $90 million over five years.

“I would think it’s hard for me to extend him to that type of number,” the ex-Nets executive said.

If the Nets were to sign Allen to an extension, they could not include him in a trade package for the entire 2020-21 season, which Bobby Marks also notes — in addition to stating Brooklyn should try to get the big man to sign in the $12-14 million range.
