The 2-6 Washington Football Team is still fighting tooth and nail for a spot in the 2020 NFL Postseason. It may be a crazy sentence to say out loud, but that’s the goal for this team according to Ron Rivera, even after a 23-20 loss to the 1-7 New York Giants. It doesn’t matter that they relied on their former third-string QB on Sunday, trusting Alex Smith to go out there and try to grab a win. It doesn’t matter that the starting QB is out for the season, with no real answer at the position for the future either. The NFC East is bad, so Washington is going to try and do what they can to win it.
Ron Rivera: "We got a few more games going forward that we got to play and see exactly where we are as thing unfolds. … The division is still up for grabs and we'll see what happens."

What will be interesting to see, however, is what happens over the next few weeks, especially if Washington is unable to pick up wins over the Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, or Dallas Cowboys. As of now, Washington would have a top-five pick in the 2021 NFL Draft if the season were to end today, so if they kept on losing from here on out, there’s a good chance they could still get one of the top 2-3 picks.
Until we see the next few weeks play out, however, we won’t know how things will change. Unless there are some losses between now and December, you can assume that Washington is doing everything they can to win each and every game. We’ll see how that goes.
