Philip Rivers reminded us why most quarterbacks stay in the pocket. The Indianapolis Colts’ signal-caller was in pursuit of Baltimore Ravens safety Charles Clark after he recovered a fumble, and Rivers experienced a truly embarrassing sequence of events.
First, he tripped over the paint on the 35-yard line. (Yes, he just fell over, unprompted.) Second, Clark piled on the shame by hurdling over Rivers, who was left to flail helplessly from his back at Clark’s legs. It was not a flattering look for Rivers.
Some might think Rivers was simply making a business decision to avoid contact, so he didn’t get hurt. I’m not so sure. This just looks like pure clumsiness. But I’ll let you decide. Check it out.
