Another action-packed Saturday full of solid college football games is amongst us, which means it’s time to look at another mock draft. With the Jacksonville Jaguars currently owning a 1-6 record and the hardest part of their schedule coming up, the probability looks high for them to land a top-3 pick.

We recently discussed the article by ESPN where the Jags were projected to pick No. 2 overall based on the simulations by their Football Power Index, something a lot of fans are hoping for. The reason for that is because that could put them in good position to get a franchise quarterback, which is the key to turning bad franchises around.

As a result of their high draft positioning, the Jags have been slotted Justin Fields quite frequently but that wasn’t the case in Pro Football Focus’s newest mock draft. Instead, due to picking third overall (order was based on Super Bowl odds), they went with a different quarterback in BYUs Zach Wilson, who is taking the nation by storm week after week.

3. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS – QB ZACH WILSON, BYU

He’s the highest-graded passer in college football. He can win from the pocket as well as on the move. He’s got a quick release and can sling it from any platform. And he doesn’t miss. Get used to it — Wilson is an elite quarterback prospect.

On film, Wilson’s arm talent has been amazing to watch. At 6-foot-3, 209-pounds, he flicks the ball effortlessly and also has some athleticism to go with it. This year, he’s also been very accurate with a 75% completion rate (165-of-220) for 2,511 yards, 21 touchdowns, and two picks.

It’s important to note Wilson hasn’t been projected this high in most drafts, which is a sign he’s a player whose stock is ascending. With that being the case, Jags fans should keep an eye on him from this point on if they haven’t because his name is catching fire at an alarming rate.

As for the Jags’ second pick in the first-round, they were slotted TCU safety Trevon Moehrig to help the secondary.

21. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (VIA LOS ANGELES RAMS) – S TREVON MOEHRIG – TCU

Moehrig is going to come away from the combine in Indy as arguably the most impressive-looking safety in the class at 6-foot-2, 202 pounds with legit explosiveness. That would be one thing if it hadn’t translated to the football field, but it has. He’s broken up 16 passes since the start of 2019 to lead all safeties in the country and picked off four more.

From the description above, Moerig would be a welcomed addition. Doug Marrone himself said the Jags’ defenders needed to get their hands on more balls earlier in the year. That’s clearly a strength of Moehrig that could help the Jags’ secondary, though a pass-rush would help them even more.

Both of these players would address huge needs for the Jags, who actually could make great strides with a new staff. However, we’d like to hear from you all at home on the selections. Are Wilson and Moehrig solid choices, or do you think the selections by PFF should’ve been better?
