KNOXVILLE — Tennessee’s match Saturday against Chattanooga Men’s Rugby Club has been canceled.
The team made an announcement Friday on Twitter.
“Our match scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled so our fall season has now concluded,” Tennessee’s rugby account announced. “We fought the good fight, kept players safe, and managed to play the game. Now we are off to the weight room where we anxiously await the spring.”

Tennessee rugby head coach Marty Bradley discussed Saturday’s match being canceled with Vols Wire.
“We were going to travel to Chattanooga to play the Chattanooga Men’s Rugby Club, but they had a couple of positive tests this week and they were required to shut down for two weeks,” Bradley told Vols Wire. “We did get in a really good match last weekend against the Nashville Rugby Club. It was quite the challenge with all the required protocols to keep people safe, but we got it done. The problem is, there is just nobody else to play. No other college in our conference is playing this fall.
“We will move our SEC schedule to the spring, but it is not finished yet. It will begin mid-March and go through April. We will get back on the practice field around the last weekend of January.”
Tennessee defeated the Nashville Rugby Club, 39-29, on Oct. 31.
The University of Tennessee has fielded a club rugby team since 1970. In 2019, Tennessee finished the fall season 8-2 and won the 2019 Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference championship. UT’s reserve rugby team finished the fall campaign with a perfect 6-0 record.
