The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big trade ahead of the deadline when they acquired linebacker Avery Williamson from the New York Jets. Williamson is almost certainly going to end up supplanting Robert Spillane in the starting lineup at some point.
However, to listen to Spillane talk to the media you would never know his job is in jeopardy. Spillane spoke highly of Williamson and hopes to learn from him. No jealousy, no resentment for the team bringing in competition for his job.
This is just another illustration of why this franchise is 7-0 and why this team is able to push through adversity as well as any franchise in the NFL. Spillane has more than proven himself since coming in for Devin Bush and the Steelers aren’t going to forget that. His physicality and effort are too valuable to just park on the sidelines.
