WATCH: Are the Celtics signaling they like RJ Hampton?

Given the Boston Celtics don’t usually run video clips of players not on their roster already, what does the clip of R.J, Hapton posted mean, if anything?

The Boston Celtics social media managers must like 2020 NBA draft prospect R.J. Hampton given they decided to to make a short clip to help us get familiar with the point guard.

The 6-foot-5, 19-year-old floor general played in Australia’s National Basketball League instead of spending a year in college at the NCAA level, playing for the New Zealand Breakers with full-grown professional basketball stars in that league.

He’s had critiques of his shot and his footwork, but has been putting in work since returning from overseas with an eye to ironing out those hitches while he waits for draft night, and has been projected in Boston’s range at pick No. 14.

The clip being circulated by the Celtics has some more details about his past successes and how he did with the Breakers in his sole season in the NBL.

The team reportedly met with him in October, so there very well could be fire to speak of if this is indeed smoke — but it could be smokescreen as well, or nothing at all.

Whether this is to distract from what Boston is actually up to, a way to sell fans on a player they’ve fallen for or just a clip to keep us occupied until basketball returns is unknown, but given the team doesn’t usually make shorts for players yet to don the green and white..

It’s certainly gotten our attention.
