Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl odds: Can Carson Wentz step it up?

Assessing the midseason Super Bowl futures odds for the Philadelphia Eagles, with a look at their odds to win the NFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles (3-4-1) are the least impressive division leader in the NFL and have squeaked by to just below-.500. They have a Super Bowl DNA and the talent on defense, plus if QB Carson Wentz can play good football, Philadelphia can make a run at this thing. The best thing you can say about the Eagles is there isn’t a real sleeper in the NFC East to chase them down.

Below, we analyze the midseason 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl odds, their odds of winning the NFC East as well as NFL futures and opine on whether they’re worth a Super Bowl futures bet at this time.

The Eagles +5000 payout is a pretty big jump from their preseason Super Bowl odds of +2000 considering Philadelphia is currently in first place of its division. Obviously, that sentence is missing a lot of context, specifically that the Eagles are the only division leaders with a losing record, but the point is half the battle is just getting into the playoffs.

There’s a lot of excuses you can make for Wentz: Philadelphia has had several offensive linemen sidelined with injury, WRs DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffrey haven’t been healthy all season, TE Dallas Goedert was injured, TE Zach Ertz is currently on the IR and RB Miles Sanders has missed time.

Also, Wentz is not playing good football. He’s 28th in QBR, has thrown a league-high 12 interceptions, is 30th in yards per attempt and 31st in QB Rating. There’s no pro-Wentz metric to justify my faith in him.

Philadelphia’s defense is average at the moment but if head coach Doug Pederson can get the Eagles to play some complementary football and the defense gels as the season progresses, maybe they can play top-10 defense. They rush the passer well and are tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the second-most sacks in the league (28).

Eagles division betting odds

  • Philadelphia Eagles -278
  • Washington Football Team +400
  • Dallas Cowboys +800
  • New York Giants +2200

The Eagles have gotten too expensive but I did get down on Philadelphia to win the NFC East a few weeks ago at +300. If you were listening to me on SportsbookWire’s Bet Slippin’ Podcast episode 11, around the 19-minute mark, you would’ve heard my handicap on why I liked the Eagles to win the division at +300 after Week 3.

A lot of stuff has happened in that time to make the Eagles the heavy favorites in the NFC East. The Cowboys lost QB Dak Prescott, Washington benched 2019 first-round pick QB Dwayne Haskins and the Giants can’t figure out how to win games. I’m holding what I think is a winning ticket and I personally will not be betting Philadelphia at its current price.

However, the EAGLES -278 to win the division has an implied win probability of 73.6% and if you have a big enough bankroll or are a big enough Philadelphia fan then you could justify betting EAGLES -278.

Eagles futures picks and predictions

Everyone says the postseason is different than the regular season so if the Eagles can start playing their best football and get healthier in time for the playoffs, they could be a tough out. Since I plan on cashing my Eagles +300 to win the NFC East future, I’ll sprinkle a little on the EAGLES +5000 to win the Super Bowl.
