How do the New Orleans Saints stack up against their competition at the 2020 season’s midpoint? After defeating the Chicago Bears in overtime in Week 8, they’re on the rise for NFL power rankings lists around the league’s orbit.
The latest writeup comes from Mark Schofield over at Touchdown Wire, who bumped the Saints up one spot to No. 12. Here’s some of what he wrote explaining that placement:
If you’re looking at areas of concern, you have to start with the defense, which has been a question mark for the Saints this year. Even given the inconsistency from the Bears offense this year, they were still about to put together some drives, including two late, to put themselves back in the game just when it seemed like the Saints had done enough to salt the game away.
When you consider some of the offenses the Saints are going to play over the next few weeks, starting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday night, you have to wonder if they’ll be solid enough on that side of the football to win.
Elsewhere around the NFC: the Seattle Seahawks (No. 3), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 4), Green Bay Packers (No. 5), Arizona Cardinals (No. 10), and Los Angeles Rams (No. 11) are all ranked ahead of the Saints. The other two teams in the NFC South, the Carolina Panthers (No. 20) and Atlanta Falcons (No. 29), are very much afterthoughts.
