Miami Dolphins Super Bowl odds: Tua taking AFC East crown?

Assessing the midseason Super Bowl futures odds for the Miami Dolphins, with a look at their odds to win the AFC East.

The Miami Dolphins (4-3) dropped their first two games of the season against the rival the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills but have worked out the kinks and won four of their past five games.

All four of those wins were by double digits and Miami was impressive in each phase of the game. Regardless of the positive momentum head coach Brian Flores and the Dolphins built, Miami has turned over the keys to the franchise to rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa. Will the gamble pay off?

Below, we analyze the midseason 2020 Miami Dolphins Super Bowl odds, their odds of winning the AFC East as well as NFL futures and opine on whether they’re worth a Super Bowl futures bet at this time.

The market is thinking it’s Tua Time as well because the Dolphins have gone from preseason odds of +10000 to their current price of +6500. Miami’s price dropping despite the quarterback move makes sense because the Dolphins are getting it done everywhere on the field.

The Dolphins are allowing the fewest points per game (18.6) and their special teams have been great this year. PK Jason Sanders hasn’t missed a kick all season and KR/PR Jakeem Grant’s punt return touchdown last week against the Los Angeles Rams was one of the deciding plays in that game.

There are causes for concern with Miami’s rushing defense and ground game but let’s remember they play in a Mickey Mouse division.

Dolphins division betting odds

  • Buffalo Bills -625
  • Miami Dolphins +600
  • New England Patriots +1100
  • New York Jets +100000

I “LIKE” DOLPHINS +600 to win the AFC East. If QB Ryan Fitzpatrick were still under center, I’d love them to win the division because I’d have more faith in Miami’s passing game. Fitzpatrick was playing great football before being benched and still has the fourth-highest QBR in the league.

Miami has the easiest remaining schedule according to Football Outsiders. Buffalo has the sixth-toughest remaining schedule. Also, Buffalo’s home advantage might work against its best interests down the stretch.

What I mean by that is, the Bills are more reliant on the passing game and are actually one of the NFL’s worst rushing teams. Their rush defense is bottom-10 in DVOA and yards per carry.  In wintery Buffalo, that’s not a recipe for success. The DOLPHINS +600 can run down the Bills for first place in the AFC East.

Dolphins futures picks and predictions

There have been 54 Super Bowls played and zero had a team led by a rookie quarterback. The only first-year starters to appear in the Super Bowl were Kurt Warner and Tom Brady, Tua won’t be the third. This ain’t Miami’s year but the Dolphins’ future is exciting.
