The Philadelphia 76ers have made a big move by bringing in Daryl Morey to be their new President of Basketball Operations. The move sent shockwaves across the league as it appeared that Morey stepped down from his post with the Houston Rockets to go spend time with his family.
Instead, he decided to take the job in Philadelphia and really put some time in to make sure the Sixers can turn it around on the floor. The team has a ton of talent led by stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but they were swept in Round 1 of the playoffs following an up and down regular season.
Now that Morey is here, it is now time to figure out how much money he is going to get paid. According to RealGM, it appears that he is going to get paid a large sum of money:
Daryl Morey is believed to have signed the NBA’s most lucrative contract for a lead basketball decision maker since Phil Jackson’s five-year, $60 million contract with the New York Knicks.
Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers agreed you a five-year deal last week estimated to be worth more than $10 million per season, according to industry insiders.
Morey is a guy who is one of the top executives in the league so it is not surprising to see him be paid the amount of money he is getting. He has had a ton of success in this league despite not having a championship on his resume.
On the flip side, with a contract as large as this one, there is a lot of pressure on him to make the right moves and lead the Sixers to a championship. He will be working with general manager Elton Brand and coach Doc Rivers in order to get it done on the floor. [lawrence-related id=38828,38823,38820]
