The Los Angeles Rams have been active at the trade deadline in each of the last two years, acquiring players such as Dante Fowler Jr., Jalen Ramsey, Austin Corbett and Kenny Young. Each of those players became a starter for the Rams at some point, showing just how valuable the trade deadline can be in the middle of the season.
Les Snead said last week that he doesn’t expect to make a splash before the deadline, but he didn’t rule out a deal if the right player became available. Sean McVay echoed that sentiment Monday, saying he doesn’t anticipate any moves by the Rams by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
“I don’t expect anything in the next day or so. I don’t see anything, really, that’s going to be Twitter-worthy for you guys,” McVay said with a laugh.
The Rams have a good core of players across the roster, especially with the offensive line taking a huge step forward this season. They’re deep at running back, receiver and tight end, as well as in the secondary. The defensive line is getting A’Shawn Robinson back after the bye, too.
The two biggest weaknesses are at inside linebacker and edge rusher – where admittedly, the two groups have improved as the season has progressed. Kicker could also use an upgrade, but players at that position are not often traded.
Then there’s the fact that the Rams don’t have a first- or fourth-round pick in 2021 thanks to the Ramsey trade, which limits their draft capital. And they’re not exactly flush with cap space after signing a host of key players to extensions this year – Ramsey included.
So while you should never say never with the Rams, it’s unlikely they’ll make a big splash before 4 p.m. ET.
