Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers enjoyed another strong performance in the Week 8 win over the Detroit Lions, enough to get nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Week award.
For the second time in as many games, Rivers has been nominated for this award thanks to a big performance. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns and a 123.5 passer rating.
Here are the nominees for the award in Week 8:
- Philip Rivers: 23/33, 262 yards, 3 TDs, 123.5 rating
- Patrick Mahomes: 31/42, 416 yards, 5 TDs
- Russell Wilson: 27/37, 261 yards, 4 TDs
Like it was in Week 6 when Rivers was nominated for the first time this season, it will be tough for him to win this award. Both Mahomes and Wilson continued their strong play this season with masterful performances in Week 8.
But Rivers was impressive in his own right. He showed solid movement in the pocket whether he’s climbing or side-stepping pressure. He had some big plays downfield and helped get the Colts offense going in the second quarter.
The Colts really want to get their ground game going, and it showed some life with Jordan Wilkins leading the way, but Rivers has shown in these last two weeks that he still has a few bullets left.
