According to multiple sources including NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets are working on a trade that would send inside linebacker Avery Williamson to the Steelers.
Pittsburgh has spent the last two weeks adjusting to life without Devin Bush and the results have been mixed. Robert Spillane is a physical run-stopper but lacking in overall athleticism. The Steelers were hoping to utilize Ulysees Gilbert as the coverage linebacker but he was injured last week and missed Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Williamson is a seven-year veteran and former fourth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans. He has spent the last 2+ seasons with the Jets and is in the final year of his contract. Williams spent all of the 2019 season on IR with a torn ACL and was just activated before the start of the 2020 season.
Williamson was one of the players I mentioned when breaking down the top trade options for the Steelers. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the Jets will get a fifth-round pick from the Steelers in 2022 and the Steelers will get Williamson and a seventh-round pick in 2022.
Jets are trading LB Avery Williamson to the Steelers, as @MMehtaNYDN reported.
Trade terms, per source: Jets get Pitt’s 5th-round pick in 2022; Steelers get Williamson and Jets’ 2022 7th-round pick.
