Everywhere you turn someone has an opinion on Texas Longhorns football. Who better to hear from than the Minister of Culture, Matthew McConaughey.
McConaughey absolutely loves the game of football and especially the University of Texas. Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd invited the MOC onto his show to talk a variety of topics including the Longhorns.
Cowherd kicked off the conversation about Texas and they agreed that the Rose Bowl between the USC Trojans and Longhorns is still the greatest game they have seen live.

When asked about what is wrong with the football team he had a very simple answer but one that makes a lot of sense. Before getting to the issues with the football team he laid out the expectations.
“If you come to Texas, you know what’s expected.” McConaughey continued, “You compete for championships. That’s the excellence, that’s the bar. You are handed the keys to the Ferrari. Here you go, drive it. The players and coaches need to understand that. When you get there that’s the expectation.”
McConaughey continues on about the fact that you can’t win a championship every year. Some things just have to “bounce your way”.
The point he was making is in fact simple. You have to know what the goal is and while the goal is the same for every school, every team but do you live it? You have to have that mentality.
“We’ve got to quit playing in the third person. We have so much media on us. We look at our proverbial jumbotron because with social media today. Who are we, what do we think we are, what is expected? Ok we won what’s the pressure when we lose? No, forget it we need to throw all that out.”
His point of putting your head down and doing the work is something that Tom Herman has preached recently. Block out the noise and get to work. Maybe it is a failed message but one should believe it is the right message. If they are able to accomplish that then at the end of the season as the MOC said, I bet we have a lot more “W’s”.
