49ers injury woes continue with Deebo Samuel, Jeff Wilson Jr. to miss multiple games

Jeff Wilson Jr. is heading to Injured Reserve with a high ankle sprain, while Deebo Samuel will miss two games with a hamstring injury.

The 49ers string of bad injury luck continued in Sunday’s romp over the New England Patriots. Both running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and Deebo Samuel left the game early, and both players will miss multiple games as a result of those injuries according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan on Monday told reporters Wilson will go on Injured Reserve with a high ankle sprain. Wilson is coming off a career game where he had 17 carries for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Samuel is dealing with a hamstring injury and will miss at least the next two games since the 49ers play on a short week against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9.

Samuel also missed time at the beginning of the year while working through a Jones fracture in his foot. An early setback in his recovery from that pushed him out of the first three games. Now he’ll miss at least two more.

Wilson got hurt in the third quarter as he ran in for his third score of the game. A Patriots defender rolled up on Wilson’s ankle and the running back was eventually carted to the locker room after limping off the field.

Samuel pulled up lame on a third-down carry late in the contest. He stepped out of bounds and immediately reached toward the back of his left leg.

San Francisco will miss both players with tough games in Seattle and at home against Green Bay.
