Raiders WR Henry Ruggs III sees just three targets in Week 7 loss

If there is one thing we have learned about wide receiver Henry Ruggs III in the first few games of his NFL career, it’s that he is already a really good player. His combination of speed plus his ability to make plays after the catch makes him one of the most dynamic receivers in all of the league.

However, there is a concerning trend that we are seeing from the Raiders in regards to the No. 12 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his last three games, Ruggs has seen just three targets in each of those contests. In Week 7, he was able to tally 35 yards on two receptions including one catch that went for 29 yards.

In Week 1, Ruggs had five targets and two carries in the first half alone. Since then, the Raiders have really scaled back the amount of work that Ruggs has seen. Do they believe he isn’t ready for a big workload or are they simply failing to find ways to get him involved?

Ruggs is the team’s most dynamic weapon and it’s a shame that they haven’t gotten him more involved in recent weeks. If this offense wants to take the next step, they are going to need to find ways to get Ruggs the football. Otherwise, they used a first-round pick on a glorified decoy and that certainly wasn’t the intent.
