Davante Adams torches Texans, powers Packers to 35-20 win

Packers WR Davante Adams caught 13 passes for a career-high 196 yards and two TDs during a 35-20 win over the Texans on Sunday.

Individual performances from the wide receiver position don’t get much better than what Davante Adams produced for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in Houston.

The three-time Pro Bowler caught 13 passes on 16 targets for a career-high 196 yards and two touchdowns during the 35-20 win over the Texans. He gave the Packers a 7-0 lead on the opening drive, extended the team’s lead to 28-7 with a 45-yard score in the third quarter and was consistently the go-to player on third down, creating all seven of the Packers’ conversions.

“We had a conversation this morning in the locker room,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers told FOX after the game. “We just kinda knew, we needed one of these days today. And we did. He was dynamic from the start. He is a special player.”

Adams actually had a third-down conversion on each of the Packers’ five scoring drive, and both of his touchdowns came on third down.

On the Packers’ first drive, Adams converted both 3rd-and-1 and 3rd-and-goal with catches. On the Packers’ second scoring drive, Adams made a terrific contested catch for 28 yards on 3rd-and-9. On the Packers’ first drive of the second half, Adams beat the cornerback in the slot for a 45-yard touchdown on 3rd-and-4.

Overall, Adams averaged 15.1 yards per catch and 12.3 yards per target. He was responsible for almost 70 percent of the Packers’ passing yards on Sunday.

All of Adams’ tools were on display. He beat coverage with impressive releases off the line. He created separation within routes. He made tough catches, both along the sideline and in the middle of the field. He won downfield. He created yards after the catch. The Texans just couldn’t find an answer.

The Packers didn’t have David Bakhtiari, Aaron Jones or Allen Lazard and didn’t get much from any other wide receiver, but Matt LaFleur’s team still scored 35 points and won a road game comfortably, largely due to the impressive connection between Rodgers and his favorite receiver.

Adams, who missed two games with a hamstring injury, caught six passes for 61 yards in his return last week in Tampa Bay. Through four games, Adams has 36 catches, 449 yards and four touchdowns.
