KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

Vols Wire is looking at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on in its program history.

The Volunteers have played 14 times on Oct. 25 and they have not had much success in games contested on that date, going 5-8-1.

The Vols first played on Oct. 25 in 1902 when they lost to in-state rival Vanderbilt, 12-5.

In 1906, Tennessee and American University played to a 5-5 tie. UT lost to Clemson, 14-0, in 1919.

In 1930, the Vols shut out North Carolina 7-0. The Big Orange toppled Cincinnati, 21-6, in 1941.

In 1947, UT blanked Tennessee Tech 49-0. The Vols routed Wofford, 50-0, in 1952.

Florida State shut out the Volunteers in 1958, earning a 10-0 victory.

In 1975, North Texas State edged the Vols 21-14. In 1980, Pittsburgh drubbed Tennessee 30-6.

1986 saw Georgia Tech edge the Big Orange, 14-13.

In 2003, UT outlasted Alabama 51-43 in a game that went into five overtimes.

In 2008, The Crimson Tide defeated the Vols 29-9.

UT last played on Oct. 25 in 2014 when it lost to Alabama, 34-20.
