KNOXVILLE — No. 2 Alabama (5-0, 5-0 SEC) has extended its winning streak over rival Tennessee.
The streak has been extended to fourteen years as Alabama notched a 48-17 victory over the Volunteers Saturday at Neyland Stadium. The rivalry is one of the longest running series in the Southeastern Conference.
The Vols (2-3, 2-3 SEC) had some bright moments, but did not have quite enough to match up with Alabama’s potent and balanced attacks.
Alabama running back Najee Harris rushed for 96 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. He also recorded 60 receiving yards.
Crimson Tide starting quarterback Mac Jones went 25-for-31 through the air and amassed 387 yards. He has at least 400 yards passing in the Tide’s last three games.
For the Vols, quarterback Jarrett Guarantano went 13-of-24 for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receivers Josh Palmer and Jalin Hyatt had touchdown receptions for Tennessee, which has now lost three consecutive games after opening the season as a top-25 team.
In the kicking game Brent Cimaglia had a field goal for the Big Orange and Will Reichert kicked a pair for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama, ranked No. 2 in the country, also had a touchdown run from Brian Robinson. The Crimson Tide also scored a defensive touchdown when Malachi Moore recovered a Tennessee fumble and returned it for a score early in the third quarter.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban is now 23-0 against his former assistants.
