Ahead of the 2020 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors have quite a few options to consider when they are on the clock. Of course, the organization can keep the second overall pick and make a selection or they can trade down and acquire players that can help them win now.
The expectation among those insiders around the league is the Warriors will opt to trade down. However, the front office has also done a remarkable job of creating misinformation ahead of the draft so other teams are genuinely uncertain what the Warriors will ultimately do.
Should Golden State opt to trade down, the team reportedly has a player on their radar: Villanova forward Saddiq Bey.
According to Connor Letourneau of the San Fransico Chronicle, the Warriors would strongly consider selecting Bey if they trade down into the middle of the first round. The team apparently values his defensive versatility, basketball IQ and his potential as a 3-and-D option and could make a move as a result.
According to multiple league sources, Golden State would strongly consider Bey if it trades down to the mid- to late-lottery. His winning pedigree, defensive versatility, basketball IQ and offensive efficiency make him an intriguing option as a “3-and-D” wing in the Warriors’ system.
Bey averaged 16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 31 games played last season. He shot 47.7% from the field, including a staggering 45.1% from 3-point range on 5.6 attempts per game. He proved to be an excellent catch-and-shoot threat, something the Warriors value.
The Warriors, according to the report, have done extensive research on Bey, from inquiring with Eric Paschall, his former teammate, to speaking with Villanova head coach Jay Wright. The team certainly values his skill set and it will be worth monitoring if Golden State makes a move for him.
Bey is projected to be selected with the 16th overall pick in the latest 2020 Rookie Wire NBA Mock Draft.
