Sam Darnold will be back on the practice field on Wednesday after missing the Jets’ last two games with a shoulder injury.
Darnold will practice on a limited basis on Wednesday, sharing team reps with Joe Flacco, who has started New York’s last two games. According to Adam Gase, Darnold will be on a “pitch count” in practice and they will make a decision on his status for Sunday’s game against the Bills as the week progresses.
“All options are available,” Gase said, per team reporter Ethan Greenberg. “We’ll have him on a pitch count.”
Darnold injured his shoulder in the first quarter of the Jets’ Week 4 loss to the Broncos, but returned in the second and remained under center for the remainder of the game. With Flacco at quarterback, New York has scored only 10 points in the last two weeks, as the veteran has completed only 51.9% of his passes for 397 yards and one touchdown to one interception.
Mekhi Becton will also practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. Becton injured his shoulder in New York’s Week 3 loss to the Colts and has missed the Jets’ last two games. He tried to play through the injury against the Broncos in place of Chuma Edoga, who suffered an injury in the first quarter, but pulled himself out of the game before halftime because of shoulder pain.
With Becton sidelined, New York’s offensive line has allowed 13 quarterback hurries, 10 quarterback hits and five sacks the last two weeks.
